Canibus
|
WHAT'S BEEF?
The battle began with "4,3,2,1" from LL's Phenomenon. Actually, it begins a
little beforehand, inside the Hit Factory. Canibus walks into LL's session,
he's been invited. He walks past Esco, Busta. He
and L are introduced. Love is traded. Then,
tattooless Canibus, checking out the microphone
tat snaking down L's right arm, slides next to L and
says, Yo, you mind if I got some shit like that? L
was cool with it: if you represent this shit, then you
could get it.
The larger the ego, the smaller the pebble that dislodges it.
A month later, Canibus gets a page. Yo we want you to be on this "4,3,2,1"
record. He grabs up the rhyme books and jets (in a chauffeured car courtesy
of L) to the Hit Factory. He hears the track, writes the hot shit, jumps in the
vocal booth. His rhyme begins Yo, Method Man, where the Gods at? Yo
Redman where the squad at? Yo L, is that a mic on your arm? Lemme
borrow that, "I said that as a term of endearment."
The pebble is airborne.
Two days forward. Canibus' pager. He calls L back. "Yo. I feel like you tried
to play me", says el superstar.
The pebble has connected.
"How you figure?" Canibus says. (This is verbatim," says Can now. "I got
this shit locked in a floppy up here.") You talkin' about the verse? I had a
talk with you about this before alla that. ("Yes I'm a arrogant ni**a and I get
busy when it's time to get busy, but I'm not stupid. For me to try to play the
ni**a on his own record when he can edit the shit, why would I do that? I'm a
thinkin' man."
"Yo L, I didn't mean it that way," Can says. "If you feel that way, I'ma go
back in the stu. I'ma change my shit."
"Yo Canibus, you change your shit, I'ma change my shit."
"Why would you change your shit?"
"You know how it is. I was kinda goin' at you."
So Canibus returns (on the train), retouches his verse, is out.
A month later Canibus picks up the new Clue tape and hears the finished
"4,3,2,1." He hears Redman, Meth. There's his redone verse. There's DMX
rippin' it. And batting last is LL, with a verse goin' directly at Can. He left his
verse.
I felt like, Yo, you wanna come get me, give me a fair one. We coulda done
fair one on the record."
If L walked in right now, what would you say to him?
"I ain't got no words for that ni**a."

Noreaga
|
Noreaga is becoming fast one of the most reconigzed name's in hip-hop, his real name Victor Santiago (20yrs) has a very unique rhyme style that has made him the most noticeable I would half to say than his CNN counterpart Capone (a.k.a Kiam Holley). CNN in 1997 released there highly waited LP "The War Report", very tight album that included tracks like"Driver's Seat", "Blood Money" and "L.A, L.A." probably thatjoint "L.A, L.A." made the most noise back in 1996, a comeback to Tha Dogg Pounds "New York, New York". Now with Noreaga's partner Capone on lock down, Noreaga continues for the mean time solo, but wait CNN ain't gone, they comingback!, But all the hype right now is on Noreaga's debut soloLP "N.O.R.E", ever since CNN's tight debut and all of Noreaga's apperance's in tracks like Royal Flush's "Iced Down Meddalions", "Blood Money Pt.2" with Nas and Nature, Onyx's remix of "Shut Em' Down", Big Pun's "You Came Up" and most recently "Thugs R Us" with DJ Clue and the first single "N.O.R.E" to his solo debut that has been played out everywhere! Also a bunch of hot tracks from the debut that have already been leaked like "What, What" etc.

Cam'ron
|
Cam Giles aka. Cam'Ron (Killa Kam) is one of today's rising stars in hip-hop, although a rookie to some most mixtape junkie's know his flow well as he as appeared on numerous DJ Clue tapes etc. the past few years, Cam'Ron from Harlem, NY is most a very unique rhyming style, he says he blends the attacking type flow with a laid back style, like many of today versitile MC's. Also most know him as a good friend of Mason Betha aka. Murder (Mase), he was in the group "Children Of The Corn" with Murder and his own cousinBloodshed, but after Bloodshed's murder the group was disassmbled, after Mase was put on by Puffy. Mase was able to bring Cam over to Biggie and get him a chance to flow forhim, he did and biggie loved his style!, Biggie then told Lance "Un" Rivera about him and told him he would be gettinga deal, at that time with Undeas/Atlantic Records (Co-ownedby Un and Biggie), but after Biggie's death the label has fallen into some turmoil and Un has gone and signed a deal with Epic/Sony to distribute the new Untertainment Records,Cam'Ron was the first signed followed by Charli Baltimore (another BIG hook-up). Now was we await Cam'Ron's debut LP "Confessions Of Fire" due out July 7th 1998, we look at various Cam material. Like I said before Cam was made many mixtape appearances, probably best commerically known for guest rapping in "Young Cassanovas" with Junior Mafia and Mase, and he also co-wote Lil' Kim's "Crush On You" (Remix). His first solo single was "357" (Winter 98) and with that later being released with a video and on the Untertainment"Woo Soundtrack"(May 98).
